Kaylee Helton

I am a Master of Social Work student intern at The University of Kentucky with a special interest in working with adults and adolescents navigating trauma, anxiety, substance use, and major life transitions. I am especially interested in trauma-informed care, and approaches which include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

 

Before pursuing social work, I served in the United States Navy, an experience that shaped my appreciation for resilience, connection, and the many ways that our experiences can shape us. I approach this work with curiosity, compassion, and the belief that all individuals deserve a place where they can be honest about their experiences without feeling judged or expected to have everything figured out.

 

A quote that resonates with me is by Brene Brown which she states, “Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it.” To me, this means understanding where we have been without allowing it to determine where we will go next. As I continue growing as a clinician, I hope to create a space where individuals feel genuinely heard and supported while learning more about themselves, recognizing their strengths, and working towards changes that feel meaningful to them.
